A
scar is invariably caused by wound,
which may be of mechanical, thermal
or chemical origin and gives rise to
loss or destruction of tissue.
Wound healing commences as soon as damage
has occurred.
The
terminal phase of the wound healing
process is characterized by the formation
of a tough, stable wound closure-the
SCAR.
Contractubex
Gel developed by MERZ+CO. specifically
for the treatment of scars and keloids.
Contractubex has achieved outstanding
success in the local treatment of
hyper-and hypo-trophic, movement -impeding
and keloidal scars. Both old and recent
scars become smoother and the tissue
more functional, elastic, strong and
less conspicuous.
PRESENTATION:
Light brown gel for external application.
COMPOSITION:
Each 100gm contains:
Extr. Cepae 10gm
Heparin Sodium 5000 I.U.
Allantoin 1 .g in water-solution,
fat free hydrogel base-serol.
Contractubex
Gel is a unique product because of
its specific composition, wherein
each ingredient has definite pharmacological
effects.
EXTRACTUM
CEPAE:
Is obtiained from Allium cepa which
contains an array of substances that
exert special effects on the skin.
The content of sulphur containing
peptides correlates with the glutathione
content which plays a special part
in cell metabolism. Together with
the carbohy drates(glucose, fructose
etc), these peptides also serve as
substrates for cellular regeneration.
The extract contains Vitamin A, known
for its epithelium protective properties.
HEPARIN
SODIUM:
Is isolated from tissue of animal
origin (liver, lung heart) where it
is to be found in the mastocytes.
Local application induces regional
heparinization. Thus when applied
topically, heparin intensifies the
fibrinolytic properties of the skin
tissue and is thought to exert an
inhibitory effect on fibroblast proliferation.
Heparin increases tissue hydration
and counteracts tissue induration.
It also dilates the vessels and improves
blood flow and thus the supply of
essential substances. The anti-inflammatory
properties of heparin guard against
local inflammation-induced irritation.
ALLANTOIN:
Is an end product of purine metabolism
in animal and plant tissues. It stimulates
cellular proliferation and promotes
the development of healthy cells,
without giving rise to hyperplasia.
These properties make allantoin ideally
suited for the treatment of scars.
Allantoin promotes epithelialization
and the formation of an elastic surface
and counteracts the development of
keloids. In older scars its main effect
is to increase the water-binding capacity
of the indurated tissue and to exert
a keratolytic and softening activity.
The pruritus frequently associated
with scarring can be relieved by allantion.
SEROL:
Is a hydrophilic colloid with water-soluble
protein components. It is extremely
well tolerated, even with prolonged
use.
It is non-greasy, colourless and odorless
and can be used with or without a
dressing, as it forms a protective
film-like coating over the scars.
INDICATION:
DERMATOLOGY
- Scars
from burns and scalds
- Acne
and shingles (chicken pox) scars
- Scars
following ulceration and acid burns
- Vaccination
scars
- Keloids
SURGERY:
- Accidents
and post-operative scars
- Scars
resulting from plastic surgery,
skin grafts
- Amputation
scars
GYNAECOLOGY
Scars following caesarean section,
radical hysterectomy, hypogastric
incision associated with a tendency
towards bulbous scar formation. Biopsy
& Breast amputation scars.
ORTHOPEDICS
Dupuytren's contracture.
Post-amputation scars.
DOSAGE
AND MODE OF APPLICATION
Contractubex Gel is slightly massaged
into the skin or scar tissue, 3 to
4 times daily until complete penetration
of the Gel. In case of hard, old scars
Contractubex Gel may be allowed to
take effect overnight under a dressing.
According to the size of the existing
scar or contracuture, treatment will
be necessary for several weeks. Subsequent
operation and transplants can often
be avoided by the application of Contractubex
Gel.
